What you will see at the Amber Museum
The Amber Museum in Gdańsk was founded in 2000 as part of the Historical Museum of the City of Gdańsk. Its main task is to document the history of amber and amber traditions in Poland.
On the first floor of the Amber Museum building in Gdańsk, visitors can learn about the process of creating amber. There are approximately 300 different varieties of resins around the world, varying in age and color, discovered on all continents except Antarctica. Baltic amber was created over 40 million years ago.
Amber products are presented on the second floor of the museum. There are both historical artifacts and contemporary jewelry. There will also be stories about the amber room, which was an important contribution of the inhabitants of Gdańsk to the history of this raw material.

The amber museum is worth visiting; it's very interesting, with many wonderful specimens on display. The only drawback is the poor lighting near the exhibits, which makes it difficult to convey historical knowledge about amber.

An exceptionally interesting location in the Great Mill, although the previous location in the Prison Tower was steeped in history. This is a fascinating museum where you can learn about the history of amber and see its various varieties. Numerous exhibits are on display, from ancient to contemporary pieces. You can admire beautiful jewelry, decorative elements, sculptures, interior furnishings, and many other unusual amber items. There's also an interesting corner where you can ask about the Amber Room. On the ground floor, you'll find the company shop with a wide and interesting selection of amber products. Visitors can also use lockers in the cloakroom, which is very convenient. The museum, with its modern twist, is definitely worth a visit.

We went on a Wednesday, so the tickets weren't free. An adult ticket costs 37 PLN, which is quite expensive. It was a bit dark inside the museum, but as I understand it, that's necessary to draw attention to the amber. Still, it felt just a bit too dark to me. I would have liked at least some backlighting for the exhibits themselves. My favorite part was the third floor, which features amber items and jewelry. If you don't read the descriptions and history of every single stone carefully, you can finish the whole tour in just 30 minutes, as the museum is quite small. If you're interested in amber, I recommend it; if not, you might want to think twice about visiting, as it could seem a bit monotonous. After all, amber is just amber.Posted on Google

•Eng The amber exhibition itself is wonderful. It's beautifully designed, with lovely lighting on the exhibits, clear descriptions and a few interactive elements, and I learned a lot of interesting facts about amber. As someone who loves stones and appreciates beautiful things, I really enjoyed it, and no one minded me taking photos and video. A couple of things to be aware of. First, the entrance is not obvious at all. When the doors are closed there are no signs showing that the museum is open or where to go in, so it is easy to walk right past it. Second, the service can be hit or miss. On one visit I found it a bit off: when I asked a simple question about the temporary exhibition the answer felt slightly condescending, and in the gift shop a guard kept hurrying me along as they were closing. On another day the staff were perfectly fine, though not especially knowledgeable about what they sell. Prices in the jewelery shop also felt a little high. They come with certificates, but for fairly ordinary amber it still seemed like a lot. None of that outweighs the exhibition. A lot of people think museums are boring, but this one really isn't. Highly recommended, especially if you like beautiful things. •PL The amber exhibition itself is wonderful. I was at the museum two weeks ago. I really enjoyed it. Interesting exhibits, modern style. But when I went to the restroom, I was reminded of the communist era. I haven't seen such a mess since then. Paper and water (hopefully) on the floor. The floorboards were wet. The stench was awful. I don't think anyone cleans up there. Foreigners used it after me. I wonder what they thought. It's hard to give a positive review. If it weren't for the restroom, it would have been 5 stars.

A museum cleverly designed in an old, huge mill building, also using modern multimedia. (I wouldn't recommend it for children who don't like the dark, though.) The exhibition material provides a lot of information. I didn't like that the 2 toilets were co-ed, so women had to use the rooms that had been dirty by men. I didn't really understand why they couldn't have designated 1 male and 1 female toilet.

For some items, the information is presented in an engaging way—for instance, you can look through holes in the wall to see where or how a particular tile or figurine was made. Numerous videos playing on screens explain the amber processing workflow. There are also exhibits containing various fossils—such as a scorpion, a mosquito, or a fish—with detailed explanations provided on information boards. On the lower level, there's a display showing how amber forms and what it looks like in its raw state. Information panels in English and Polish provide further details. Upstairs, you can see various models of what can be made from amber and how it was crafted in the past. We found it very interesting, and you can easily spend two or three hours there. The Amber Museum left a good impression. You can easily walk through all the halls and see the most interesting exhibits in an hour. I especially liked the amber pieces—beautiful, high-quality, and atmospheric. However, I would like to see more of these pieces, as they really set the mood of the museum. Overall, I recommend it, but there's potential for expansion.

Located in an old 14th-century watermill, it's very Instagrammable. It has two floors and a nice, but pricey, souvenir shop inside.

Given the day, admission is free. It was a bit crowded at first, but after entering an hour after official opening, it was very quiet. It's a peculiarity, as I don't think there are many museums of this kind.

The exhibits are exceptional. The interior has a very pleasant atmosphere, with semi-darkness and illuminated exhibits. There's no clear information on the website about how visitors are admitted. Tickets are hourly and only a limited number are allowed. Therefore, if there are a large number of visitors, your visit may be delayed. I recommend it.

The relocation of the Amber Museum to the Great Mill building proved to be a perfect choice. This combination of austere medieval architecture and modern, thoughtful design makes a huge impression from the moment you enter. The space is spacious, well-lit, and encourages you to slowly explore the display cases. The museum's greatest strength lies in its balance – on the one hand, we have fascinating scientific exhibits, such as insect inclusions dating back millions of years, and on the other, breathtaking works of art and jewelry. Everything is described in an accessible way, and modern multimedia adds a touch of lightness to the experience, ensuring that even younger visitors will enjoy the visit. This place completely transforms the perception of amber – demonstrating that it's not just a traditional souvenir from a seaside stall, but a true work of nature and a material for outstanding artists.

Perfect proof that this type of museum doesn't have to be boring! For older visitors, there are beautiful exhibits showcasing amber's place in art, medicine, and other fields. For younger visitors, there's a wonderful series of animated stories about how amber is created, why amber can be found far from the sea, and the differences between different types of amber. Plus, there's interactive fun—both with and without a screen. For everyone, there's an incredible collection of amber with inclusions. All in the unique atmosphere of an old mill-granary.

The museum is modern and tidy, almost sterile. There are countless exhibits and a wealth of theoretical knowledge. The ticket office staff could have been more specific, as we didn't fully understand the answer to our question about leaving luggage, ticket types, and entry, and due to the strange response, we had to figure it out ourselves. This museum is definitely worth a visit.

Interesting museum , fair value, good factual and historical account of how amber occurs in nature and is processed for jewey, art and other uses. There is also a lovely little cafe and a very good shop . If you want to buy certified quality amber jewelry in Gdansk at a fair price , this is the place to buy.Posted on Google

An interesting place, worth seeing. One room is dedicated to the formation of amber and its history, and the other to wonderful exhibits. Minus one star for the significantly inflated prices in the shop (the smallest amber earrings—a 5mm x 5mm stone—for 200 PLN is a gross exaggeration).

A great museum and definitely one of the places worth visiting while in Gdańsk. The historic Great Mill itself is impressive, and the way the interiors and the lighting of the amber really add to the atmosphere of the entire exhibition. The exhibition is very interesting and diverse. You can see natural amber nuggets, inclusions with embedded plants and animals, beautiful works by old masters, and more contemporary works. We were particularly impressed by a huge, 68-kilogram amber nugget from Sumatra and an incredible amber chess set from over 300 years ago. It's great that the museum doesn't just limit itself to viewing exhibits, but also shows how amber was created, how it was used, and why it has held such significance for Gdańsk over the centuries. We also really enjoyed the current exhibition on the ancient uses of amber in medicine. The whole thing is modern, well-presented, and you can easily spend a lot of time here. Even if you weren't particularly interested in amber before, you might change your mind after this visit. We left truly satisfied. We definitely recommend it!

Definitely worth a visit while in Gdańsk. It offers a great deep dive into the history, trade routes, and art surrounding Baltic amber (the soft gold of the North). Fascinating exhibits throughout. My only minor complaint is the gift shop—the fridge magnet selection could definitely be better. Otherwise, a solid 5/5 experience.Posted on Google

The air inside is unbreathable, too hot... The museum is interesting at times, but without a guide who speaks your own language, you can't get a handle on it... It feels more like an art exhibition than a museum about "stone"...

A small but beautiful museum. Given the price of admission, I recommend going on Mondays, when admission is free, unless you're worried about lines. I was very disappointed with the museum shop, where all the guides recommended buying original Baltic amber. I bought three pendants and didn't even receive a certificate of authenticity; they were placed in a paper bag like the worst costume jewelry!

Amber Museum
The museum exhibition, located on two floors, shows various aspects of amber – from its natural inclusions, through the traditions of amber craftsmanship, to its applications in medicine, art and scientific research. After moving to a new location, Wielki Młyn, in 2021, the museum gained a much larger area, which allowed it to expand its collection of exhibits.
In the new location, the Amber Museum presents unique animal inclusions, such as the “Gierłowska Lizard”, an amber lump containing a mummified lizard from 40 million years ago. In addition, the collection includes the largest lump of amber weighing 68 kg, amber chess from the 17th century and other valuable artistic works made of amber. This is a place where you can explore the history and richness of this unique raw material and its importance in art and crafts over the centuries.
