How to get to Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo

Self-service parking on the premises of the Museum is available all year round and is unguarded. There is a fee for using the parking lot.

You can reach the museum by bus no. 870 from Gdańsk.

See the timetable for bus 870

Service frequency is limited, so we recommend double checking the departure time of the last bus. It may not be possible to return by public transport after the last bus has departed. In such a situation, Uber does not reach Sztutowo

When using a taxi, it is worth making sure the driver waits. Ordering a taxi to Sztutowo may be difficult or impossible. Uber can deliver passengers from Gdańsk, but ordering it in Sztutowo will not be possible.

Touring

What you will see at the Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo

Commander's Office Building

Documentary films are shown in the headquarters building.

During the summer season, screenings take place every half an hour and last from 20 to 30 minutes. The repertoire includes the films: “Stutthof a Few Days Later” and “The Gallows Stutthof”.

Barracks

The exhibition in the camp barracks shows the tragic history of the prisoners. The canteen barracks displays the remains of footwear and documentary photos of footwear from 1945. In the BUNKRY administration barracks you can see the camp’s punishment system. In barracks 8 and 8a, the history of the Free City of Gdańsk, Nazi policy, the origins of KL Stutthof, the structure of the authorities and the fate of Jews in the camp are presented. The Women’s Bloc presents the transport and plundering of prisoners’ property, their living conditions and illegal resistance activities.

Crematorium and gas chamber

In the Stutthof concentration camp, in the summer of 1942, the first crematorium furnace was installed on the eastern side of the Old Camp, which was later replaced by two new furnaces. There was a gas chamber next to them. Additionally, in December 1944, a field crematorium in the form of a deep pit was established in the forest on the northern side of the new kitchen. These installations were key elements of the extermination process carried out in the camp.

It's difficult to judge a museum, especially a facility of this type. But I think everyone should experience the haunting silence that reigns there, where the frozen shadows of buried humanity persist. Especially if one participates in today's social media discussions, where it's clear that evil is rearing its ugly head in the guise of misunderstood "patriotism."

The museum is worth visiting. Few buildings remain of the camp itself, but those that do contain excellent exhibits. I also recommend checking out the hourly film screenings, where you can see films and photos taken just after the camp's liberation, as well as the trials of SS officers. Practically speaking, there are plenty of restrooms on the museum grounds, and you can buy guidebooks, books, and grab a coffee at the visitor center.

Every such place, if possible, must be visited. The question is why? I need to reflect on what people—though I question here what they can do to others in the name of what, ideologists of territorial claims, or simply seeking slave labor. And how easily it comes to them. And literally a few years later, it's common knowledge that they've already come to terms with their past, worked through it. Again, the question is how? May we never want to repeat this ourselves. Reflection, contemplation, and shock after witnessing the testimony of what happened.

It was a priceless experience. "Only" 85,000 mostly political prisoners were executed or starved to death here. That many people were killed every week at Auschwitz. But seeing the gas chamber, crematorium and railroad tracks and cattle cars screamed the message "Don't allow this to happen again". Pay attention to politicians promising free stuff they plan on taking from someone else. It never ends well.

A typical German fascist concentration camp with well-preserved barracks, a guardhouse, and a section used for mass extermination. We have well-preserved furnaces for burning corpses and a gas chamber for murdering people with Zyklon B gas. The main building houses a small cinema with themed films, and guided tours are available periodically. Parking is 15 PLN per day, and admission to the museum is free. I recommend visiting this place where over 65,000 people were murdered to see what people can do to each other with a smile.

A beautiful museum site, well-maintained, with a lot to see and a wealth of information. Our children were very engaged, especially because there was a good amount of visual material on display, such as cooking utensils, clothing, letters, drawings, photos, and several rooms. A visit to a concentration camp is always worthwhile for one's intellectual development, but here you also get a lot visually. And it's free and easily accessible even without a car.

Free admission is a welcome change from the ubiquitous "Pay" sign. I recommend calling ahead and booking a guide to show you around, as reading the signs on the premises alone can get boring after 10:00.

An informative historical site. You can see a glimpse of what happened there firsthand... Admission is free. The film costs 8 PLN per person - I recommend watching 20 minutes. Parking, despite the crowds, didn't take long. 15 PLN for 3 hours, each additional 5 PLN. Self-guided tours are available for those interested in visiting for about 3 hours. Restrooms are available at the entrance, as well as a vending machine selling snacks and coffee.

This kz lager was originally a leisure centre for the elderly. It remote location made it a suited place for a concentration camp. The horrors of this place are undiscribable however if you walk around you can get a glimpse of the attrocities that were committed here and this was not even the worse camp. Over 40 people a day died here and it functioned for almost 6 years. A reminder of the thin layer that human civilation can be

It's worth visiting because of the weight of this place's history. Paid parking is available, but the price is reasonable for the duration of the visit. The visitor center is very spacious and modern. Tours are free. I have a few comments, going further. The camp grounds are well-maintained, but compared to Majdanek or Auschwitz, there's not much preserved infrastructure. However, it should make up for this with elements of the permanent exhibition. Here, I noticed that part of the exhibition is worn by time; some information elements were duplicated, and graphics were attached in one place with electrical tape. Some information, including witness accounts, is displayed on mesh canvas. In darker areas, the graphics and text are less legible up close. I think that introducing at least a minimal fee—for example, a maximum of 15-20 PLN per person for a regular ticket, 10 PLN for a concession, and free for up to six years—would allow for the exhibition to be renewed and visually enhanced. A good example is the World War II museum, which uses vertical glass panels with LED lighting, descriptions, and photos. This form of presentation would not obscure important elements of the interior and would give it a modern look. Additionally, I missed a video presentation in the form of screens featuring witness accounts or documentaries on a loop. Another thing is the camp commandant's villa. The villa is located right at the entrance to the camp, and from what you can see, it's unused and owned by the Sztutowo Commune. The question is why the camp isn't owned? Participation and the opportunity to tour (if appropriately furnished to reflect the style of the commandant's family's home) would provide a perfect contrast between the horrific conditions in the camp and the idyllic, everyday life of the commandant's family, literally separated by a fence and garden. This demonstrates the scale of brutality and the displacement of these people. The height of hypocrisy is also the camp staff's declaration that they are Roman Catholics. In short, I hope this opinion will be taken into account in the museum's development.

I suggest that instead of a free museum and a paid, usurious parking lot, we reverse the situation and make it free parking with a 20 PLN museum entrance fee, because that parking lot is a joke. I confess that I didn't know this memorial existed before passing by. I stopped and walked out feeling as if I'd been punched in the stomach. I happened to visit on a very hot day, with the barracks housing the exhibition reduced to ovens. This gives a glimpse of what living conditions were like in this camp. Much of the exhibition is bilingual, in Polish and English, so it's understandable even for those who don't speak Polish. Worth a visit, and don't forget to visit the World War II Museum in Gdańsk. You can't rate a place like this with mere stars. Five stars aren't for the attraction, but for the memory, respect, and the immense work put into preserving the truth. Stutthof isn't a place you simply visit. It's a place you experience. You enter through the gate, gaze at the barracks, the watchtower, the remains of buildings, the crematorium, and prisoner documents, and with each step, you say less and less. At a certain point, words simply aren't enough. Everything that concerned you just an hour before suddenly seems small and unimportant. What remains is silence, a heaviness in your chest, and the thought that people walked this same earth, stripped of their freedom, dignity, names, families, and often even their lives. The most moving thing isn't the numbers, unimaginable though they are, but the awareness that behind each one stood a specific person. Someone had a mother, a father, children, a loved one, dreams, and plans for the next day. Someone still believed in the morning that they would return home. Someone looked at their loved ones one last time, unaware that they would never see them again. Looking at the crematorium furnaces and the wall of documents, it's hard to hold back tears. There, history ceases to be a chapter in a textbook. It becomes something terrifyingly real. This place also shows what hatred, propaganda, and indifference can lead to. Crime doesn't begin with the gas chambers and crematoria. It begins much earlier—with dividing people into better and worse, with stripping them of their humanity, with words that render others insensitive. That's why places like this must exist. Not to reopen wounds, but to ensure that we never allow history to repeat itself. You leave here different from how you entered. You speak more quietly, you look longer at those around you, and you appreciate more ordinary life: the ability to return home, to call a loved one, to call a warm meal, your own bed, and the freedom that seems so obvious in everyday life. Here, you understand that it never was. Everyone should visit Stutthof at least once. Not as a tourist, but as a human being. To see, remember, and pass on the truth about those whose voices were taken away. As long as we remember them, they have not disappeared without a trace. Honor their memory.

I recommend that every Pole visit this museum. The entrance fee is 3 hours/15 PLN in the parking lot. The ATM accepts various payment methods. Recently, an entrance hall was built, with a free cinema and free restrooms, where a 10-minute film is shown telling the history of the inhabitants of the Free City of Gdańsk and the subsequent adventures of its Polish inhabitants, deported to the Stutthof concentration camp. I won't describe the types of props on display in the museum, as I don't want to anticipate the depressing experience.

Touring the museum is free. If you'd like to take a guided tour, the group fee is 180 złoty. There were four of us, and within 10 minutes, we were joined by others who had arrived at the museum and wanted to take a guided tour. The ticket cost 13 złoty per person for a 1.5-hour tour. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and able to convey his knowledge.

The museum is clean and nice but the lack of an English tour even an audio recorded one seems like a missed opportunity. I would of paid for a live or recorded tour. We need to remember history even the bad so that we can remember to cherish the present.

I was deeply moved by the visit to this place... I recommend taking a guide with you. We did and we don't regret it. Mr. Władysław told us the entire story very well, interestingly, and with great detail. It's worth visiting this place and learning about its unique history. It's sad, but so important.

A very well-done and impressive presentation of the camp's history, embedded in its historical context and overall situation. A departure from the highly organized mass tours found at Auschwitz. Touring with Children

Touring Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo with childrens

There are no special facilities at the Stutthof Museum for parents with children, but it is possible to move around the camp with a stroller.

Due to the brutal content presented in the main exhibition, we recommend it to children over 13 years of age. Visits with younger children are at the parents’ responsibility.

Children under 13 may visit the Museum only under the supervision of an adult.

Young people can visit the camp without any restrictions.

museum description

Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo

The Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo, located on the Vistula Spit between Stegna and Sztutowo, documents the history of the German concentration camp operating from September 2, 1939 to May 9, 1945. During these years, the camp expanded from the initial 0.5 ha to 120 ha, and through its 110,000 prisoners passed through the gates, of whom 65,000 died.

The exhibition at the Stutthof Museum presents the development of the camp, from the construction of the Old Camp with 10 barracks by prisoners in 1940, to the establishment of the New Camp and arms plants in 1942-1943. The exhibition includes preserved buildings of the Old Camp, including: wooden barracks, a brick gas chamber, a crematorium, as well as fragments of the original barbed wire fence and guard towers.

The museum shows not only the infrastructure of the camp, but also the everyday life of prisoners, their work, living conditions and the forms of repression they had to endure. In the south-eastern part there was the camp management and other key administrative buildings. The camp area is divided into four main parts, differing in functions and layout, which is presented in detail in museum exhibitions.

In addition, the camp area and its surroundings are protected under the 1999 Act as a Holocaust monument, which emphasizes its historical importance. The Stutthof Museum is open daily, allowing visitors to reflect on the tragic events of World War II and their impact on today’s generations.
