Perhaps the biggest impression I got from Gdansk was from this floating museum "Sołdek". In fact, you can go by car, bus, or train, you can fly by plane, but sailing on ships is not something most people on the planet have to do. No, you won't have to sail on it - this ship is already on eternal fun here. But they made it into a wonderful museum where you can walk around the entire ship, starting from the hold and engine room, ending with the captain's bridge and the stateroom. I was simply delighted with everything I saw. After visiting the ship, you can go to the central branch of the maritime museum (20 meters from Soldek) and take a test to see how well you remembered the main points that you read or heard about on the ship. The ship "Sołdek" itself was the first ship launched in Poland after World War II. 300 thousand rivets were used in its creation. When the elements of its hull were being welded, the lights were turned off in certain areas of Gdańsk so that there was enough power for electric welding.

Want to see for yourself or show your children what a steamship looks like from the inside, look into the cabins, the engine room, the galley? Then this is the place for you. Expect at least an hour.

The ship was named after the best shipyard worker who cut sheet metal for shipbuilding. It was the first ship built from scratch in Poland after World War II, during the "real socialism" era of the Polish People's Republic.

Visiting Statek muzeum "Sołdek". Oddział Narodowego Muzeum Morskiego is a fascinating journey into maritime history. As the first post-WWII ocean-going ship built in Poland, this freighter-turned-museum delivers an authentic and well-preserved look into nautical heritage right along the Motława River waterfront. The self-guided tour offers a comprehensive dive into the vessel's operational past, supported by clear signage, and informative plaques. Movement through the ship involves manageable queues and reasonable flow, though navigating the narrow corridors, steep stairs, and low-clearance decks requires extra attention. While the staff presence is minimal and hands-off, the overall value for money and the spectacular panoramic views of Gdansk's historic waterfront from the upper decks make the experience worthwhile. What truly stands out is how unique and immersive the experience feels as an original museum housed directly onboard the ship. Navigating the authentic steel structure provides a genuine sense of life at sea, though prospective visitors should keep in mind that the tight layout and steep staircases make it less suitable for elderly visitors or people with mobility limitations.

The first seagoing vessel built entirely in Poland after World War II. It was used to transport coal ore. Also known as a bulk carrier, it was a steam-powered vessel. Worth a visit due to the accessibility of almost its entire length.

Touring this ship is something different, something unusual. It's an interesting attraction, even though we went everywhere alone. There's a photo gallery inside, and you can go in almost everywhere. It's quite cramped, with lots of people, small rooms, very steep stairs outside, and when it rains, it's slippery. But it's worth seeing. Especially the engine rooms and the maps; you can even stand at the helm. An attraction for children and adults.

A fantastic museum ship! The ticket price is reasonable. It's a truly atmospheric place, but those with mobility issues or balance problems should probably avoid it, as there are numerous narrow, steep ladders. The ship isn't wheelchair-accessible because, well... it's a historic ship, not a building. I recommend it to those who are able-bodied, as the experience is extraordinary, even intimidating! Huge respect to those who worked and lived on this monster.

The Sołdek, a massive ship built in Poland with a distinguished history. The pride of the Polish sea, that's what I'd call it. A truly beautiful and interesting vessel, if you like ships. The displays inside are engaging and detailed. The ship looks good both in the landscape and inside. It's a magnificent sight; it's truly rare to find such a good vessel. I definitely recommend a visit if you're interested in learning more about ships, especially ones as complex in construction as the Sołdek. The views from the ship are certainly inviting.

A fascinating piece of Gdańsk’s maritime history. What I particularly liked is that Sołdek still feels like a working ship rather than a polished museum object. It's good. It's atmospheric. There aren't many exhibits, to be honest. But the tour is organized based on international experience. Just like on the Iowa in LA—shooters, don't get lost. The holds are boring; it stinks of coal, maybe it's the ore, I don't know. The engine room, the wheelhouse aft and forward in the wheelhouse—excellent. There's constant exercise, up and down steep stairs! But there are two sturdy handrails, so you won't fall. I'm happy with the visit.

A beautiful boat to visit and to gain insights into the seafaring life of yesteryear. Tickets must be purchased in the building next to the ship. Inside, the history of the ship and seafaring is explained via terminals in Polish and English. The highlight was, of course, ringing the bell on the upper deck and the engine room inside the ship. Wyjątkowy eksponat z historii żeglugi morskiej! The SS Sołdek was an outstanding museum ship that stays as a fond memory when visiting Gdańsk. It gives you an idea of what life and work as a crew member was like, as the ship's engine room, living quarters, and other areas could be explored. Being located in the excellent spot on the Motława River in the center of Gdańsk, this museum ship is very accessible when planning a tour. Even though it is usually crowded with tourists, the ticket price is very low, and worth a visit. The main interesting part of this museum ship, apart from the insane engine, is the name of the ship. SS Sołdek is named after Stanisław Sołdek, who won a contest to become the best worker of the shipyard during the building of the ship. Since there was no possibility to raise the workers' salary, the contest was used to speed up the ship's building process. As the winner of the contest, Stanisław Sołdek was allowed to name the ship after himself. All in all, this museum is a great place to visit for anyone who loves the ship industry and a MUST if you visit the amazing city of Gdańsk.

A great museum for kids and adults alike. It's perfect for both maritime enthusiasts and non-fans alike. We waited a while for tickets because it's the holiday season. The museum is located on a ship, so don't expect any comfort – the ship's stairs are slippery, especially after rain, and sometimes cramped, and the exhibits are on external stairs (for those with a fear of heights). Therefore, visiting with a stroller or in a wheelchair is unlikely. The exhibitions are highly visual, with multimedia elements and objects frozen in time. Depending on your pace, you can spend a good while here. It's definitely worth visiting.

The "Sołdek" museum ship is a unique attraction and a real treat for history and technology enthusiasts. The opportunity to board the first ship built in a Polish shipyard after the war is truly impressive and allows you to experience the atmosphere of ancient maritime navigation. The exhibition is beautifully presented – you can see the engine room, crew quarters, and many of the ship's original equipment. Everything is well-described and allows you to better understand the work of sailors and the operation of such a vessel. It's a great place for both adults and children. The tour is engaging, educational, and offers a close-up look at the history of the Polish shipbuilding industry. It's definitely worth a visit during your stay in Gdańsk!

One of the must-see attractions when visiting Gdańsk. I went to check off one of the major attractions and was very pleasantly surprised. Some people might not like it or be bored at first, as it's a typical history of the ship, more for enthusiasts, but give it a chance. I guarantee that the subsequent, and especially the final, stages of the tour will make it worth the money.

Sołdek was the first naval ship built in Poland after World War II and the first ocean-going ship completed in Polish shipyards after the war. She was launched on 6 November 1948 and entered service in October 1949. Approximately 300,000 rivets were used in her construction. She was a steam-powered cargo ship designed to transport coal and iron ore. During her service, she made 1,479 voyages, transported more than 3.5 million tons of cargo, and visited over 60 ports. She was in service until 1980, and has been a museum ship since 1985. Visitors can see the original engine room, boiler room, bridge, cargo holds, and crew cabins. From the deck, there are beautiful views of the Motława River, Żuraw, and the historic center of Gdańsk.

Definitely worth it. The tour route winds through the entire ship, from stern to bow, and from lower decks to upper decks. It's quite steep at times, narrow at others, but it all adds to the experience. The kids loved it. I also recommend the photography exhibition currently on display in the ship's hold as part of the tour—beautiful photos!

A visit to the "Sołdek" is a must-see on any trip to Gdańsk! ⚓️ It's not just a ship, but a living history lesson that leaves a huge impression. The opportunity to descend into the authentic, dark engine room, see the crew's cramped quarters, and stand on the captain's bridge allows you to experience the atmosphere of bygone maritime life. The ship is impeccably maintained.

The tour begins with a visit to the engine rooms, then ascends to the areas dedicated to the sailors and the ship's command. The Soldek was a merchant ship used for transporting minerals. This is a fantastic example of ship of that age, lots of information all around, you get a real feel for what life would have been like on board as a crew member. I was taken back by the engine room, an open cased steam engine, you can imagine the stoker's shoveling the coal into the boiler. Well worth a visit. Cheap for a ticket. Some of the stairs are steep, so perhaps not good for young children and the elderly that have mobility problems.

Don't just stop at the museum ship! We also visited the maritime museum building and it was well worth it. The contrast is fascinating: you go from the smell of oil and engines on the 'Sołdek' to the elegant and historical halls of the brick building. The exhibitions are rich and well organized. A big plus for the organization: even visiting on a free day (holiday), we didn't waste any time in queues. We got in quickly everywhere and enjoyed an educational afternoon. "You may have already been told that the Soviet singer Andrei Makarevich wrote a song about a sailboat that was written off and left on the shore due to old age. There are lines in that song: it is better to go to the bottom in time than to turn into a museum. It is a sad song that revives the ship and reveals its soul. But the soul of the ship cannot do anything with its body, and it is forced to remain on the shore, bringing joy to visitors."

It's not a tourist-heavy attraction (I have a feeling), as everyone expects a simple tour of the ship. ;D Inside, you'll find visualizations, recordings, and films related to the creation of the Sołdek. You can also see the crew's quarters and (perhaps the most impressive part for me) the ship's boiler room and engine.

A beautifully presented history of the Polish ship, the shipyard, and its hard-working people. The ship is arousing great interest even among the younger generation; you can explore all the floors, hear stories, see photos, and explore its nooks and crannies. It's truly worth a visit.

The SS Sołdek, a steam-powered coal ore carrier and bulk carrier, is the first seagoing vessel built entirely in Poland after World War II. It's worth exploring, from the bridge and deck to the boiler and engine rooms. It's an interesting structure that avoided scrapping.

The actual ship is brilliant but the museum let's its self down slightly for me. A quarter is explained in English and then the rest you have to figure out where you are and read it from a leaflet and it just doesn't have the same effect! It is such a shame as some of the things the show in the museum are so interesting!

The tour route extends from the deck to the ship's interior. We'll see, for example, the engine rooms, boilers, cargo holds, cabins, the wheelhouse, and more. It was a sentimental journey for me. "Sołdek" was one of the models I assembled from "Mały Modelarz." I highly recommend it.

SS Sołdek is a decommissioned Polish coal and ore steamer. It was the first ship built in Gdańsk, Poland, after World War II, and the first naval ship completed in Poland. It was the first of 29 ships classified as Project B30, built between 1949 and 1954 at the Gdańsk Shipyard. The name was given in honor of Stanisław Sołdek, one of the shipyard's strike workers. The ship Sołdek is often confused with Oliwa, a former unfinished Hansa A-type cargo ship that was commissioned after Sołdek, but whose hull had already been built in 1944. She was abandoned by the Germans in a slipway in Szczecin and confiscated by Poland. The hull was then completed and the ship launched as Oliwa. She was later renamed and entered service as Marchlewski in 1951, serving with the Polish Ocean Lines. Many sources incorrectly state that Oliwa was the provisional name of the ship Sołdek during her launching and that she was later relaunched as Sołdek. The ship is currently preserved as a museum ship in Gdańsk, as part of the collection of the National Maritime Museum. The ship was used in the film Persona non grata as a Japanese steamer transporting Jews from Vladivostok to Curaga.

A very interesting and unusual museum, definitely worth a visit. The tour of the ship is impressive, with many interesting exhibits and well-written descriptions. The whole thing has a great atmosphere. At times, we got a little lost, especially where paths intersect. There wasn't anyone to guide us in such places, or at least better signage. As a result, while following the tour's direction, we had to squeeze between people going against the flow. Regardless, it was a great experience and I highly recommend it. The museum is a great format, something different from the typical exhibition in a building.

An engaging tour of the ship, launched in 1948 as the first seagoing vessel to transport iron ore and coal. During its 31 years of operation, the ship carried over 3.5 million tons of cargo, calling at over 60 ports. Visiting the various decks is like stepping back in time and experiencing the atmosphere of the post-war years: all instruments are manually controlled, with analog radios. The furnishings in the sailors' and officers' cabins are minimalist. It's worth noting that the temperature in the stoker's station, responsible for the ship's propulsion, reached 60 degrees Celsius. I highly recommend a thorough tour of the ship. It won't be a waste of time.
